I am a mediator and arbitrator with ADR Chambers and a barrister in Ontario. A link to my professional resume is attached. For over 25 years as a litigation lawyer with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt in Toronto and with Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong, I have been involved in mediations and arbitrations in a variety of contexts. I have seen good mediators and arbitrators and mediocre ones. In my experience, the more you know about your mediator or arbitrator, the more positive your mediation or arbitration is likely to be. In this website, I have tried to describe my approach to mediation and arbitration so that counsel and their clients are not surprised by my take on either process. I am happy to be interviewed to discuss these approaches in advance of an appointment.

As arbitrator or mediator, I accept institutional or ad hoc appointments. I am a resident arbitrator and mediator at ADR Chambers in Toronto and bookings for neutral assignments can be made with them through the attached link.

I also act as counsel and have included a link to some of the more important cases on which I have acted. I have represented clients in matters involving complex international business disputes and arbitrations, product liability class actions, franchise, partnership and employment disputes, defamation, investor complaints, competition, professional liability, fraud and shareholder rights. I have also acted as a neutral in many of these areas.

I have particular expertise in the libel and slander field and have co-authored the Osler Introduction to the Canadian Law of Defamation and a soon to be published loose-leaf book entitled Canadian Defamation Law and Practice.
